Solon Irving Bailey

Bailey (3rd from left) at a picknick near Arequipa/Peru

Bailey discovered 5 IC objects on plates of the Harvard all-sky map. They were taken with the 1" (f/13) Cook lens at Arequipa station and exposed 1 hour to search systematically for bright clusters and nebulae; see: A Catalogue of Bright Clusters and Nebulae, Ann. Harv. Obs. 60, 199 (1908). The objects are all open clusters: IC 2128 in Doradus, IC 2395 in Vela, IC 2714 in Carina, IC 4651 in Ara and IC 4756 in Serpens.
