Carl Frederick Pechüle

Pechüle discovered 2 NGC and 3 IC objects, while working as an astronomer at the new Copenhagen Observatory, established in 1861. The main instrument was an 11" Merz refractor, formerly used by d'Arrest. The galaxy NGC 4239 in Coma was found in 1885; see AN [2710] 113, 361-364 (1886). There is no reference for his other NGC-discovery, NGC 78, a galaxy in Pisces. IC 503, a galaxy in Hydra, was found with a small comet searcher, probably in 1888; see AN 122, 137 (1889). The remaining objects are the galaxy IC 4 in Pegasus, found Sept. 12, 1893, and the open cluster IC 1369 in Cygnus, found April 27, 1891; for both see AN 136, 305 (1894).
