Schönfeld discovered 3 NGC objects: (1) The small reflexion nebula NGC 1333 in Perseus. The object was found in 1858 during the work on the Bonner Durchmusterung using the 3" Fraunhofer refractor at Bonn Observatory (see picture). It is included as #17 in Arthur Auwers' list of new nebulae in William Herschel's Verzeichnisse von Nebelflecken und Sternhaufen, Königsberg 1862. (2) The galaxy NGC 4268 in Virgo was found at Mannheim Observatory on April 1, 1862 using a 6" Steinheil refractor (erected in 1860; moved to Karlsruhe in 1885 and to Königstuhl in 1895). The observation is published in Schönfeld's book Beobachtungen von Nebelflecken und Sternhaufen, Erste Abtheilung, p. 42, Mannheim 1862. The object was also seen later by d'Arrest. (3) The galaxy NGC 4383 in Coma was found with the same instrument on May 23, 1862 and published in the following Zweite Abtheilung, p. 46, Mannheim 1875.
