Obituary: MNRAS 66, 179 (1906); AN 168, 78 (1905)

Otto Struve discovered 13 NGC objects with the 15" f/18 Merz & Mahler refractor at Pulkowo observatory, St. Petersburg (erected in 1839). 10 objects are galaxies; NGC 4467 was found while observing M 49. One is a pair of stars and the remainig, NGC 1554, is "Struve's lost nebula". It was found in early 1868 (no reference) while searching for "Hind's Variable nebula" (NGC 1555) near T Tau; both nebulae are missing. Struve published his observations in Melanges Mathematiques et Astronomique tires du Bulletin de l'Academie Imperiale des Sciences de St. Petersburg; [1] Vol. III, 569 (1866); [2] Vol. III, 689 (1866); [3] Vol. IV, 392 (1869). He is mentioned as co-observer by Dreyer for NGC 3126 (d'Arrest), NGC 7422 (Marth) and NGC 7688 (Peters). He also found the galaxy NGC 4005 in Leo, but it is identical to NGC 4007 (W. Herschel).
