Auguste Voigt

Voigt was director of Marseille Observatory 1863-65 (followed by Stephan). During March-August 1865 he discovered 4 NGC and 3 IC objects with the new 80 cm Foucault reflector (silver-on-glass mirror), using a magnification of 150. The objects are only listed in his observation log. Fortunately the relevant pages were copied by W. Tobin in: Vistas of Astronomy 30, 145-152 (1987). There are 10 objects (all galaxies) in his list, but 3 were found earlier (No. 1, 5 and 9).
