Williamina Paton Stevens Fleming

Miss Fleming discovered 43 IC objects. She inspected plates taken with Harvard's Bache telescope, an 8" f/5.5 refractor, which could be equipped with an objective prism. It was first used at Harvard College Observatory and transported to Arequipa in spring 1889 (see e.g. PASP 4, 58 (1892)). The objects in Orion were found on a plate, taken at Harvard. The othe objects, mostly Planetary Nebulae, were discovered from plates taken at Arequipa with the aid of the objective prism. HN stands vor "Harvard nebula" (see Ref. 6). Some objects were credited by Dreyer to Pickering.

There are Fleming objects in the IC, seen first by other observers (most by J. Herschel from his Cape observations 1834-38).
