Aaron Nichols Skinner

Obituary: VJS 54, 1 (1919); Obs. 41, 453 (1918)

Sinner was an assistant of Safford at Dearborn Observatory. There he found 2 NGC-object and 3 IC-objects in 1867 with the 18.5" refractor (all are galaxies); one NGC-object (NGC 577) and all IC-objects were new. The IC-objects were noticed too late by Dreyer to enter them in the NGC; they were published 1887 in: Safford, T. H., Nebulae found at the Dearborn Observatory, 1866-68, Annual Report of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Astronomical Society, together with the Report of the Director of Dearborn Observatory for 1885 and 1886. NGC 7416 was seen earlier by Marth and NGC 577 is identical to Tempel's NGC 580.
